Submitted by deb on Mon, 01/05/2009 - 11:10am.
2009 KLONDIKE DERBY: Dates & information for the 2009 winter Klondike Derby this February have been finalized. The Klondike will be held at Von Oven Scout Reservation in Naperville on February 28, 2009. The Klondike will be held at Von Oven Scout Reservation in Naperville on February 28, 2009. Registration packets are available below. Troops need to volunteer to host a Klondike Town individually or in partnership. Please email Stan Hungness at shungness@z6.com to volunteer your unit. A town consists of three or four different skill events. Each skill event should have at least two stations, one for scouts and one for Webelos, but multiples are preferred, as we do not want lines. We do want daylong activity, i.e. no down time (except for lunch). The watchword is FUN.
Klondike is an annual event Hosted by Troops for Boy Scouts and Webelos skill building. Webelos units may also host a town. Boy Scouts may sleep over on Saturday night to participate in the twp day event. Webelos arrive early on Saturday. Troops set up and plan events that are either run by the troop or manned by volunteers selected from among the attending adults. Events stress FUN FIRST then DISCOVERY LEARNING METHODS of imparting First Class Scouting skills through games, competitions, and physical “learn by doing” events. Klondike is not a test. Events are separate and scored separately for Webelos and Scouts. Thanks! Stan.
