TROOP OPEN HOUSE RECAP
What a beautiful day for an event like the Thunderbird District Boy Scout Troop Open House! Even the Chicago Bears thought is was a "winning" event! Several Troops entertained 47 Webelos Scouts (increase from last year) on Sunday, October 3rd at the Von Oven Scout Reservation. Thank you to Troops 99, 100, 107, 133, 222, 505, 510, and 555.
Webelos comments were - "They are all great Troops!"; "Now it will be hard to decide which one to choose."; "I thought I knew which Troop I was joining because the Pack always goes there, now I want to look around more. This will be exciting!"; "Can I go camping with the Boy Scout Troop?". Lots of positive feedback for the attending Troops of Thunderbird District. YOU ROCK!
Remember Webelos - this event can count toward the Arrow of Light requirement - "visit one Boy Scout-oriented outdoor activity".
Webelos Recruiting Information for Troops and Packs
TIPS FOR THE RECRUITING SEASON: Plan Webelos Scout visitation dates into your Troop calendar and inform the Cub Scout Packs of those dates via email or handouts distributed into the Pack's mail boxes at Roundtable. Be ready to provide visiting Webelos Scouts with a handout containing all the information they may need about your Troop. During Webelos visits have the Scouts speak with the Webelos and their parents. Don't forget that you are recruiting adult leaders also!

YEAR ROUND RECRUITING
Although we concentrate on Fall and Spring Roundups, recruiting is a year round activity. To keep the Cub Scout program at the level we were last year we still need 200 more boys registered prior to the end of the year. To increase awareness of Scouting in your sponsoring organization (school or church), look for opportunities to participate in other events. One way would be to work with your school to set up a table with information on your pack, and scouting in general, at Parent Teacher Conferences, school fairs, concerts, etc.
TIPS FOR THE RECRUITING SEASON: Please be sure to contact the Troop's recruiter to schedule Webelos visits. When visits are pre-arranged, Troops can plan activities for the Webelos Scouts. Be sure to ask the following questions when you visit - 1)Meeting place, date & time, 2)Summer camp location & dates, 3)Fundraising requirements, 4)Uniform requirements, 5)What do they present at crossover. Look for those "Trained" patches on the Boy Scout Leader's shirts. A trained leaders provides a good program!
Good Luck to all of you during this recruiting season!
